Editorial Services
As an independent author, I know how hard it is to get a sympathetic yet objective view of your cherished manuscript. I also know that some of those who offer to read or publish your work are simply trying to rip you off. That's why I work with other indie authors to look out for each other, and for newcomers to our merrie band.
Agents rarely read unsolicited manuscripts, and if they do they are evaluating them in terms of placing the work with a trade publisher. Many of those offering editorial services are also still looking at unpublished manuscripts with a purely commercial eye.
If that's the route you want to go down, then I cannot help you. The route I took to publication was one many writers are turning to as the publishing industry implodes. Self publishing.
Self published books vary tremendously in quality. I offer you a reader's-eye view of your work, from a reader who understands the writing process.
I can offer you sympathetic support and constructive critique to help you refine and polish your work ready for self-publication. I will help you make your book the best experience for the reader that you can make it. I can't promise we'll make it perfect. I can't promise you it will sell lots of copies or win any prizes, but I've learned a lot about what makes for a good read since I published my first book in 2006. I would like to help you correct simple mistakes and pitfalls that first time writers often fall into.
I'll evaluate the first 3000 words of your work for free. If I don't think I can help, I will say so. If I think I can help, I will offer you a quote for a full reading. From a full reading, I will provide you with:
- a written analysis of general readability, narrative construction and use of English
- recommendations for improvement
- optional follow-up support services.
