The meaning of "She-haios"

"she" = "land"

"haios" = "spirit"

"she-haios" is a dream made real. Literally, the name "she-haios" means "the home of the spirit of life", the mysterious force which created mankind and the world we all live in. Call it God or call it science, life remains an unsolved mystery and a myriad undiscovered possibilities.

The Shaihen Heritage tales are created from ingredients of human history and human imagination, filtered through the author's personal view of how and where the spirit manifests itself in the affairs of men.

The spirit of life, of course, is universal. By definition, it lives within all living things - but all living things are governed by the limits of instinct and understanding. In Shehaios, I have imagined a culture where men have a deep and intuitive understanding of the spirit. They seek to build a world ruled only by the spirit - not by the greed of an ever-more prolific human race. A land of beauty and prosperity where all living things are free to live their lives. Where the human holders of the balance seek constantly to ensure that life in all its diversity is sustained.

Cloak of Magic, Staff of Power, and Spirit of Shehaios are works of fiction, stories to while away an idle hour. Discover in these stories whatever you wish to discover, but above all I trust you will enjoy them for what they are. Good books. Books that, for a while, take you somewhere new in entertaining company.

As Kierce would say, enjoy the journey.

Shaihen Heritage Book 1: Cloak of Magic
A story of deception

To Caras and Kierce and their kin, Shehaios - "The Fair Land" - is home. It is the land they belong to; where they tend their crops, raise their stock, and hunt the bounty of a naturally rich world.

To the Emperor, it represents an outpost of civilisation, and a dangerous gap in the Empire's defences.

The political head of the united tribes of Shehaios is the King. The human face of the collective spirit of the Fair Land is the Magician. Once, their task was to create the Kingdom of Shehaios. Now it is to preserve it in the face of the overwhelming strength of their neighbours in the Empire of the Sacred Union.But both King and Magician are men, and the Emperor's daughter - like her father - knows what she wants, and how to get it.

Shaihen Heritage Book 2: Staff of Power
A story of passion

The power of the Magician, created by generations of Shaihen dreams, has been compromised and bloody war is raging through Shehaios.

The great battle between the proud and fearless tribes of the north and the all-powerful Empire of the south has begun. Caras, Chief of Oreath, must stand alone against the forces threatening to destroy his land and his people.

As everything he believes in starts to disintegrate around him, Caras is forced to contemplate sacrificing all that he holds dear to save Shehaios from oblivion.

Only one person can change this deadly end game. Kierce the Magician must overcome the forces tearing him apart and reclaim the Staff of Power.

Shaihen Heritage Book 3: Spirit of Shehaios
A story of love

When the Emperor appointed Caras ti’ Leath Governor of Qivor, Caras knew he was taking on an epic challenge. The deep and bitter feud between the merescaii and the ascaii tribes of Qivor had already destroyed Lord High Magician Kierce.

But Caras does not face the battle alone. He is armed with the heritage of Shaihen magic personified by Sheldo, the minstrel; Aruath, the priest; and Caras’s own daughter, Alsareth.

The firstborn child of a Shaihen Holder and a Shaihen healer, Alsareth is heir to all the insights and power which set the Shaihen Magician apart.

She is also a passionate young woman with an eye for a strong and dashing warrior.

When Qintal, son of the merescaii warrior chieftain, returns to Qivor seeking vengeance on the Empire of the Sacred Union and their Shaihen allies, life begins to get very complicated for Alsareth an’ Caras.
